Professional Aircond Installation in Petaling Jaya

Installing a new aircond is not just about mounting a unit on the wall and connecting two pipes. A properly installed air conditioning system requires precise BTU calculation for your room size, correctly sized and routed copper piping, proper drainage pipe slope, adequate electrical wiring, and professional gas charging. Get any of these wrong, and your expensive new unit will underperform, consume excess electricity, or develop problems within months.

At PJ Kool Aircond Service, our senior technicians bring over 20 years of installation experience across every major brand -Daikin, Panasonic, York, Mitsubishi, Samsung, LG, and Carrier. Whether you are replacing an old unit, installing aircond in a new home, or fitting out a commercial space, we ensure your installation is done right the first time.

How We Determine the Right Aircond for Your Space

BTU Calculation and HP Rating

Choosing the correct HP rating is the single most important decision in aircond installation. An undersized unit will run constantly without adequately cooling the room. An oversized unit will short-cycle -turning on and off repeatedly -wasting electricity and wearing out the compressor prematurely.

Our site assessment includes precise BTU calculation based on:

  • Room dimensions -length, width, and ceiling height
  • Sun exposure -west-facing rooms and top-floor units need more cooling capacity
  • Window area -large windows allow more heat gain
  • Number of occupants -each person adds approximately 400 BTU of heat
  • Heat-generating equipment -kitchens, server rooms, and equipment rooms require higher capacity
  • Insulation quality -poorly insulated rooms or rooms with thin walls lose cooling faster

General HP Guide for Malaysian Homes

Room SizeRecommended HPTypical Room
Up to 150 sq ft1.0 HPSmall bedroom, study room
150 – 250 sq ft1.5 HPMaster bedroom, small living room
250 – 400 sq ft2.0 HPLarge bedroom, medium living room
400 – 550 sq ft2.5 HPLarge living room, open-plan area
550 – 750 sq ft3.0 HPVery large room, small office

These are guidelines -our on-site assessment provides exact recommendations for your specific situation. In Petaling Jaya’s tropical climate, we typically factor in an additional 10-15% capacity to account for the sustained heat and humidity.

Inverter vs Non-Inverter Technology

Modern inverter technology is one of the most significant advancements in air conditioning. Here is how the two types compare:

Inverter Aircond:

  • Compressor adjusts speed continuously rather than cycling on/off
  • Uses 30-50% less electricity compared to non-inverter
  • Reaches set temperature faster
  • Operates more quietly
  • Higher upfront cost, but pays for itself in electricity savings within 2-3 years

Non-Inverter Aircond:

  • Compressor runs at fixed speed, cycling on and off
  • Lower purchase price
  • Higher electricity consumption over time
  • Suitable for rooms used infrequently (guest rooms, storage)

For bedrooms, living rooms, and offices used daily, we strongly recommend inverter models from brands like Daikin, Panasonic, or York. The electricity savings in Malaysia’s climate are substantial.

The Installation Process

Step 1: Free Site Assessment

We visit your home or office at no charge to assess the installation requirements. Our technician measures the room, inspects the proposed piping route from indoor to outdoor unit, checks electrical capacity, and identifies any challenges (concrete walls, long piping runs, limited outdoor space).

Step 2: Piping and Wiring Preparation

The route between indoor and outdoor units is prepared. This involves:

  • Copper piping -sized correctly for the HP rating and refrigerant type (R32 or R410A)
  • Armaflex insulation -wrapping all refrigerant pipes to prevent condensation and energy loss
  • Trunking -neat PVC or metal trunking to conceal piping where it runs along walls
  • Drainage pipe -routed with proper downward slope to prevent water accumulation
  • Electrical wiring -dedicated circuit from the DB box to handle the unit’s power requirements

Step 3: Indoor Unit Installation

The wall-mounted unit or ceiling cassette is mounted on a steel bracket, levelled precisely, and connected to the piping, drainage, and electrical systems. For wall-mounted units, we core-drill through the wall for pipe passage and seal the hole with weatherproof putty.

Step 4: Outdoor Unit Installation

The outdoor compressor unit is positioned on a concrete pad, wall bracket, or compressor cage with proper clearance -at least 30cm on all sides for adequate airflow. We connect the refrigerant lines, charge the system with the correct amount of gas, and verify there are no leaks using electronic leak detection.

Step 5: Testing and Handover

After installation, we perform a comprehensive test:

  • Cooling performance -verifying the outlet temperature reaches the expected range
  • Drainage flow -confirming condensate drains properly without leaks
  • Electrical safety -checking all connections are tight and properly insulated
  • Remote control -testing all modes (cool, fan, dry, timer)
  • Noise level -ensuring normal operation sound levels

We then walk you through the remote control functions, explain optimal temperature settings for Malaysian conditions (24-26°C), and recommend a maintenance schedule to keep your new unit performing at its best.

What Affects Installation Pricing

Unlike our fixed-price cleaning and chemical wash services, installation pricing is quote-based because costs vary significantly depending on the specific requirements:

FactorImpact on Cost
Piping lengthLonger distance between indoor and outdoor units = more copper pipe and insulation
TrunkingSurface-mounted trunking adds material and labour costs
Wall materialConcrete walls require core drilling; brick/wood is simpler
Electrical workIf a new circuit breaker or dedicated wiring is needed from the DB box
Height and accessHigh ceilings or difficult-to-reach locations require additional equipment
Number of unitsMultiple units in one visit are more cost-effective per unit

Our free site assessment ensures you receive an accurate quote with no hidden surprises. We explain every cost component so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Installation Questions Answered

How much does aircond installation cost?
Installation pricing is quote-based because it depends on several factors: piping length (distance between indoor and outdoor units), whether trunking is needed, electrical wiring requirements, and the complexity of the installation (e.g., high ceilings, concrete walls). Contact us for a free site assessment and accurate quote.
What size aircond do I need for my room?
The right HP rating depends on room size, ceiling height, sun exposure, and number of occupants. As a rough guide: 1.0 HP for rooms up to 150 sq ft, 1.5 HP for 150-250 sq ft, 2.0 HP for 250-400 sq ft, and 2.5 HP for 400-550 sq ft. Our site assessment includes precise BTU calculations for your specific room.
Should I choose inverter or non-inverter aircond?
Inverter models cost more upfront but save 30-50% on electricity over time because the compressor adjusts speed rather than cycling on and off. For rooms used daily (bedrooms, offices), inverter is strongly recommended. For rarely used spaces (guest rooms), non-inverter may be more cost-effective.
Which aircond brand do you recommend?
It depends on your budget and priorities. Daikin is known for reliability and quiet operation. Panasonic offers good value with nanoe-X air purification. York is popular for commercial use. We are not affiliated with any brand, so our recommendation is purely based on what suits your needs and budget.
How long does installation take?
A standard wall-mounted unit installation typically takes 3-5 hours for a single unit, including piping, wiring, drainage, and testing. Multiple units in the same location can often be installed in a single day. Ceiling cassette installations may take longer due to additional structural work.
